This alloy is a martensitic stainless steel that combines corrosion resistance similar to 304 with easy fabrication and single step age hardenability and good yield strength and ductility. It possesses a yield strength that is roughly 3 times the strength of standard 304 stainless. It is used in applications where standard austenitic grades fail in terms of strength requirements in corrosive environments and martensitic grades fail in terms of corrosion resistance. It brings together the best of both worlds.
